The call comes in a report the charity has produced charting the wellbeing of children and young people in the key transition years of their schooling.

The report, One Small Step?, highlights a significant proportion of year 10 students have low levels of wellbeing, with 15% reporting this, which is higher than among other year groups.

The charity says the research is consistent with findings from its recent Good Childhood Report which showed a higher percentage of 15-year-olds were unhappy with a number of aspects of their lives than at any of the other ages examined.

As well as year 10 being a key moment of concern, 14.7% of young people have low wellbeing in year 12, and one in eight (12.7%) in year 11.
