Cash boost for drug and alcohol action team in Kent

Work to help young people who abuse alcohol in Kent has been given a 300,000 funding boost.

Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team (KDAAT) has been given the cash by East and West Kent Primary Care Trusts to run campaigns and targeted activities to discourage excessive drinking.

The work will build on a Kent County Council (KCC) funded campaign to deliver a hard-hitting message to young people about alcohol and drugs misuse.

A report by the council's alcohol misuse select committee outlined the importance of alcohol education and said working with schools, health workers and parents was an important way forward for reducing the number of young people affected by substance misuse.

Mike Hill, the council's cabinet member for community services, said: "The recent KCC report has provided an excellent basis on which to build on and pioneer our responses to the alcohol problem."

KDAAT is the multi agency partnership in Kent with responsibility for delivery of alcohol and drug services.
