Canadian firm buys Bolton fostering agency

Social Care
A Bolton-based fostering provider has been sold to a Canadian private equity firm in a deal believed to be around 150m.

Acorn Care and Education, which also runs schools for children with special educational needs, has been bought by Teachers' Private Capital, the investment arm of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.

Phoenix Equity Partners have financed the provider since March 2005.

Ben Hewetson, head of the London office of Teachers' Private Capital, said: "Our flexible and patient capital allows us to provide certain and appropriate investment support over the coming years to allow Acorn to take advantage of multiple growth opportunities."

Acorn Care and Education was set up in 2005 by Kevin McNeany and runs 10 schools and a large fostering network.
