Moves to boost the participation of young people in local decision-making have been unveiled by the British Youth Council (BYC) following last month's youth policy statement.

The Youth on Board (YoB) initiative will recognise innovative and exciting youth participation projects, flagging them up for others to potentially follow.

The project will take the form of an award scheme – run by young people – with four different categories such as projects that highlight new ideas and practices that make a difference to how organisations work with young people.

Projects to engage young people and give them a voice will also be recognised.

Rosina St James, vice-chair at BYC, said: "I’ve always valued the views of my peers and we want this award to be special in that all the selection and judging is by young people, and we especially want young people to make nominations.
