Businesses to get say over apprenticeships

1 min read Education
Employers will be allowed to design and develop their own apprenticeships, the government has announced.

The proposal features in the government’s response to last November’s Richard Review on apprenticeships, which also outlines plans for every apprenticeship to be targeted at a skilled job.

Apprenticeships, which are available to anyone aged 16 or over and not in full-time education, will also be more “outcome focused”, setting out what apprentices should know when they have completed it.

Meanwhile, all apprentices will have to work towards GCSE, or equivalent, qualifications in English and maths from August 2014, if they do not have them already.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said apprenticeships give young people the chance to “aim high for their dream job”.
