Brown promises youth crime crackdown

The Prime Minister has promised to do more to stop young people committing crime.
In an interview with The Mirror newspaper Gordon Brown said the public will see an increase in efforts to deal with youth crime.

"There will be more undercover policing, more surveillance, more stop and search powers used and more work done in schools to warn young people of the dangers of knives, guns and gangs," he said.

Brown also promised to do more to stop young people drinking. He said off licenses that sell alcohol to under 18s more than twice in a three month period will lose their licenses. The current rule is three sales in three months.

The government is expected to publish an action plan on tackling youth crime in the summer.
