A spokeswoman for the authority was unable to comment on the detail of the case.
But she did confirm that the suspension is not a direct response to the death of a two-year-old child in the area on Sunday (9 January).
Birmingham City Council recruited Tucker, who used to be director of children’s social care at nearby Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, to lead its scandal-hit children’s services department in April 2009.
Ofsted rated Birmingham’s children’s services department inadequate because of problems with safeguarding in December 2008. This led to the council being served with a government improvement notice. The same department was again rated as "performing poorly" by Ofsted last December.
