The call comes ahead of local elections on 5 May across Britain in which 16- and 17-year-olds in Scotland and Wales will be allowed to take to the polls but their counterparts in England and Northern Ireland will not.

Local elections will take place across every council area in Scotland, Wales, London and many parts of England, while Northern Ireland will elect its new assembly.

The #BeSeenBeHeard campaign encourages young people to speak out about issues they care about and push political parties to back a lower voting age across the UK, according to the organisation.
