Currently young asylum seekers lose all support from their local authority once they become an adult and because of delays in them receiving Home Office documents they often go without benefits.
However the Department for Work and Pensions has now agreed to accept a solicitor's letter as an alternative to Home Office documents so young asylum-seekers can get benefits quicker after they turn 18.
The move follows pressure from England's Children's Commissioner and will help 5,000 unaccompanied young asylum-seekers in the UK.
