Bear Grylls starts journey around UK to attract adult Scout volunteers

1 min read Youth Work
Chief Scout Bear Grylls has begun his challenge to visit all areas of the UK over the next four years, in a bid to encourage more adult volunteers into Scouting.

As well as aiming to inspire a new generation of young Scouts, Grylls is keen to ensure there are enough adult volunteers to match the number of children and young people waiting to become Scouts.

He was set to attend 24 events across the North East of England over the bank holiday weekend from the Midlands to the Scottish borders and meet 10,000 Scouts and leaders. The events include a medieval camp in Northumberland, canoe polo at the Grimsby Docks and sailing in South Shields.

Grylls said: "My goal as Chief Scout is for every young person that wants to be involved in Scouting to be able to take part. But in order to make this happen we need even more adult volunteers to keep up with the demand."
