Ban on reporting of 13-year-old father story

Social Care
A judge has banned further reporting on the "13-year-old father" story after placing the rights of the children involved above those of the media.

Mrs Justice Baron of the High Court's Family Division ordered that no new information could be published on the case, although information already in the public domain is exempt from the ban.

After The Sun newspaper ran a front-page article last week claiming a 13-year-old had fathered a child, more than 1,000 media outlets worldwide picked up the story.

The judge said the private and family life of the mother and baby had been disrupted to such an extent "that the court was concerned about the mother and baby being unable to lead a normal family life".

She also said it was important that "the young putative father should be able to live his life and return to school".
