In a letter to Barry Sheerman, chair of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee, which recently criticised the current national testing system, Balls said lessons would be learned from this year’s experience.
However, the children’s secretary fell short of committing to a radical reform of the system.
He said: It is important we evaluate the case for change before making any decisions.
Meanwhile almost 30 per cent of Key Stage 3 English results are still unavailable to schools, nearly two weeks since marks were supposed to be published.
Seven per cent of Key Stage 3 maths results, nine per cent of Key Stage 3 science results and two per cent of all Key Stage 2 results are also still unavailable.
