The call has been made following the death of 20-month-old Asiah Kudi, who was left alone in her teenage mother Verphy Kudi’s flat in Brighton for six days in 2019.

The review, carried out by Brighton and Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership, also calls for more intensive help for vulnerable parents in supported accommodation.

The review details how Verphy Kudi was only supported for two hours a week in such housing.

The partnership said action is now already underway in Brighton and Hove to improve support for teenage parents.

This includes ensuring “the child of any young parent who has a social worker now has their own separate social worker focusing on their needs”.
