
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request sent to the Home Office by charity Every Child Protected Against Trafficking UK (ECPAT UK) found that 45 children went missing from hotels used to house asylum seekers arriving in the UK between June 2021 and March 2022.
“Unaccompanied children went missing from the hotels at an average rate of one every week, with more than 10 going missing in just one of those months,” a report by the charity states.
It also revealed that the Home Office housed 1,606 children in hotels between July 2021 and June 2022.
