The money would come from the £500m pot the government has set aside to encourage recruitment.
The proposal is part of a five-point plan to help young people into employment. The CBI wants businesses to be given £2,500 to employ an apprentice, to cover the cost of training. An additional £25m will act as funding for companies that take on more recruits than they need.
The plan encourages companies to support young people, helping them gain practical experience on work placements and volunteering. It promotes mentoring schemes for staff to teach apprentices interview techniques, communication and management skills.
"There's no reason why the government cannot take on this scheme. The £500m that is put aside for recruitment needs to be prioritised. It is a valuable opportunity for both businesses and apprentices to learn much needed skills for the future," said senior policy advisor Fiona Murray.
