The MP for Stratford on Avon told DCSs at the annual Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) conference in Manchester that the national leadership training programme will take its first cohort of aspiring DCSs in 2020.
A procurement process to find an organisation to run the programme will be launched shortly, the Department for Education confirmed.
Speaking at the conference, Zahawi said the programme will be open to directors me to the role and those who want support to become DCSs.
"Helping to put support for middle and senior leaders in place is important to me," he said.
"The programme is for talented leaders to secure roots into DCSs roles. It will ensure they have support to thrive."
