ADCS announces 2017/18 president

The head of children's services in Nottingham will be the 2017/18 president of the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) it has been confirmed.

Alison Michalska, who was in charge of children's services in East Riding of Yorkshire before taking control in Nottingham in 2013, will become ADCS vice president in April after being elected by members of the association.

In line with the constitution of the ADCS, Michalska will be due to take over as president of the organisation in April 2017. Current vice president Dave Hill, who is director of children's services in Essex, will become president for 2016/17 when he takes over the role from Alison O'Sullivan in April.

Michalska began her career as a youth worker before becoming a social worker in Staffordshire. She moved into management in 1993 at Cheshire County Council and went on to spend time at both Nottinghamshire County Council as an assistant director within social services, and Birmingham City Council, prior to joining East Riding of Yorkshire as director of children's services in November 2007.

Alison O’Sullivan, president of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services, said: “At a time where the sector needs strong leadership I am delighted that Alison will be taking up the role of ADCS vice president in April.

"This is a challenging but important role and I am sure that she will relish the opportunities that it will bring.”

Michalska is currently honorary secretary of the ADCS.
