Abuse: NSPCC gets cash to extend ChildLine

Neglected, abused and bullied children in London are set to benefit from nearly 1m worth of help and advice from the NSPCC's ChildLine service.

London Councils has commissioned the child protection charity to providethe service for the next four years in a contract worth 920,000.

The money will be used to extend the ChildLine service, allowing agreater number of vulnerable children to get in touch with counsellorsover the phone. It will also go towards helping raise awareness of theservice and enhance its outreach work in the capital.

Paul McCannah, chair of the London Councils Grants Committee, said:"Children suffering from any form of abuse or facing any crisis orconfusion in their life can often feel isolated and unable to talk totheir teachers, parents or other family members about theirproblems.
