The charity set up by Mayor of London Boris Johnson to reduce child poverty in the capital has raised 7m in its first year, according to its annual report.

The report states that the Mayor's Fund for London has secured funding from a number of corporate sponsors, including Barclays, the Private Equity Foundation and the Big Lottery Fund. In the next three years the fund expects to spend £16m on projects, of which £7m is already in place.

"The charity is nurturing young people through mentoring and skills training, and despite the challenging financial climate has triumphantly secured £7m in funding commitments," said Johnson. "The fund is set to expand its hard work to other parts of London shortly, and I look forward to the day when every child in need can benefit from its help."
