Working with Distressed Young People

1 min read Social Care Youth Work
Bob Harris; Learning Matters; ISBN 9781844452057; 16; 120pp

The book starts by providing an introduction to young people, which describes the issues that distressed young people face.

It then provides the reader with practical examples that they can use in everyday practice, including individual and group support. Unlike many books, it also explains what to look out for to quickly identify when things are going wrong.

It is targeted at youth workers, but I felt its approach makes it useful for any professional who works with young people.

Many books on this topic stereotype young people and their issues, but this is grounded in reality and demonstrates ways youth workers can overcome problems and work with young people who are distressed. This book is well written, easy to read and realistic about young people's needs. It is a book that I feel will help me immensely with my NVQ Level 3 in youth work.
