Work Wise: Review - Is full inclusion really impossible?

1 min read Education
This book brings together 17 essays on educational inclusion.

This debate was stimulated by a pamphlet by Baroness Warnock in 2005, which questioned the use of full inclusion.

Included or Excluded? is meant as a considered response to that debate and includes a foreword by Warnock herself.

The essays divide into those that make a case for special schools, and those that look at philosophical and practical perspectives of inclusion. Author Ruth Cigman is sceptical of radical inclusion, and makes a valid point that those committed to full inclusion need to deal with the reality of why some people like special schools.

As a "radical inclusionist", I was disappointed that that case was not set out. The editor asserts that the supporters of full inclusion refused the opportunity to contribute. This is a shame, as the publication is weaker for it.
