Voice of the child in the Family Justice Review

Children's Legal Centre legal researcher Jo-Anne Prud'homme looks at strengthening children's participation rights in family court proceedings.

The Family Justice Review, an ongoing evaluation of the family justice system, is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Justice, Department for Education and the Welsh Assembly Government that began its work in March 2010. Led by David Norgrove, the purpose of the review is to address the increasing pressures and problems within the family justice system, and is aimed at developing recommendations for reform to address the many problems plaguing the system. One key issue identified in the review's interim report, released in March 2011, was the lack of consideration given to the child's wishes and feelings and the lack of opportunities for children involved in both public and private law proceedings before family courts to express their views.
