The hopeful power broker - Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats

Surrounded by fresh-faced aides and readying himself for a policy launch on a social networking website, Nick Clegg appears very much the politician intent on engaging with the younger generation.

And with Lib Dem youth policy for the forthcoming general election due to be unveiled in early February, the party leader indicates children and young people will feature prominently in the party's manifesto.

Moments before announcing his party's youth jobs pledge on Twitter from his Westminster office, he tells CYP Now that youth unemployment is "one of the biggest social crises we face".

To tackle this the Lib Dems want to ensure young people do not spend more than 90 days on Jobseekers Allowance before they get more training, education, an internship or a place on a work programme.

The party has previously pledged to invest close to £900m to create more further education places, financial support for students to return to college and a paid internship scheme.
