Steve Turner, director of Youth Achievement Foundations, UK Youth

1 min read Education
Steve Turner develops and supports vocational learning.

- What do you do?

Youth Achievement Foundations provide a vocational activity-based curriculum aimed at vulnerable young people who have been excluded from school, or are at risk of being so. UK Youth is one of the pathfinders establishing at least 10 foundations and my role is to develop and support the organisations during the three years of funding. I support them in their discussions with local authorities and other partners, and market foundations to give them a national presence.

- What qualities do you need?

Flexibility and patience, plus the ability to get on with people and understand their situation so you can help them. You need to be able to retain the big picture of what is trying to be achieved without forgetting the day-to-day stuff. I've been with UK Youth for the past year after responding to an ad for this role in CYP Now.
