After seven years as a journalist and broadcast producer, I was looking to do something different. I researched where I could put my communication skills to use and did some volunteer work in speech and language teams. The more I learned about it, the more I wanted to do this, so I took a postgraduate course that led to this job.
Although I have worked with adults, I decided early on that I wanted to work with children and young people. It is so rewarding to work with a child who has been frustrated and found it difficult to communicate and to see them develop. My role is split into three days working with early years and two working with mainstream school pupils.
