Log on to ... Refugee support

3 mins read Youth Work
Young refugees who arrive in the UK expect to find a better quality of life, but often they find themselves facing issues such as discrimination. Tim Burke looks at websites that raise awareness of their plight and offer advice and support.

Young refugees, especially those who are separated from their families, are a highly vulnerable group. Responding to their needs, and helping other young people to understand the challenges they face, is an important task for young people's services.

National charity Refugee Action's website, www.refugee-action.org.uk, includes lots of interesting educational material. Clicking on a link to the Refugee Awareness Project on the home page takes you to a separate site that includes a section called Info Vault. In here can be found activities for young people such as "mapping", which uses maps to look at where asylum seekers come from and where they go.
