
There has been significant criticism aimed at The Adoption and Children (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2020, which came into force on 24 April 2020 and expire on 25 September 2020. Objections have focused on the absence of consultation and due process in bringing the regulations into law, and that they were being used as a means of re-introducing fundamental reforms to existing legislation already withdrawn during the passage of the Children and Social Work Act 2017 through Parliament.
Children’s rights charity Article 39, supported by other groups, were instrumental in defeating these clauses in 2017 and they have again launched a judicial review of the new regulations.
