The subtitle of this volume gives a better idea of why it warrants a review here: "helping young people to get involved with newsletters and newspapers".
It's a curiously old-fashioned volume - there's only really a hint at writing for the internet and blogging. The book is a straightforward journalism primer, providing a clearly written introduction to all the basic issues to be addressed when looking to either produce your own newsletter or to get your material published elsewhere.
Youth workers ought to be comfortable with and skilled at both these kinds of involvement. The agenda around promoting young people's voice and influence, and the related issue of combating the negative representation of young people, is compromised if they and those that support them are unable to engage with the media.
