Interview: Luke Lancaster, junior chief executive, Young Pioneers

Luke Lancaster is still stunned by his double win at the CYP Now awards ceremony in November. His charity, Young Pioneers, gained the Third Sector Engagement Award for its Aspiration Enterprise scheme, while Luke himself was named Children and Young People's Champion. Not bad for someone who has only been in the business two years and is just 15 years old.

Since 2008, Young Pioneers has worked with 7,000 young people through its training programmes. This year it turned over £350,000 as well as winning a £487,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund for the next five years.

Luke conceived the idea of creating a charity after being bullied at school. Dyslexic and at the bottom of the class, he was assaulted by other boys when he told a teacher he wanted to learn. "I wanted to overcome my adversity, so that's what I'm doing for other young people," he says. "My parents said they'd help — I bet they regret that now."
