Interview: Justice for fatherhood - Duncan Fisher, chief executive, Fatherhood Institute

3 mins read Early Years Interview
As far as Duncan Fisher is aware he is the first fatherhood campaigner to ever receive a New Year's honour.

"I had conflicting emotions when I found out about the award," admits Fisher, who helped set up campaign group the Fatherhood Institute 10 years ago and has been named an Officer of the British Empire (OBE).

"On the one hand it seemed slightly unfair to get an individual award when clearly this was in recognition of the institute's work. But on the other hand the fact that fatherhood campaigning is part of the honours system at all makes me proud and shows much has changed since I started doing this," he says. The think tank has just been awarded a 50 per cent increase (to £440,000) in core government funding.
