Managers of nurseries and other early years settings know inspectors will call at some point so it is vital to be prepared, says early years consultant and trainer Sue Allingham. Through her Early Years Out of The Box consultancy she advises and works with settings, including helping to "pick up the pieces" in the wake of a poor Ofsted inspection. While many council early years teams, which used to support nurseries and playgroups, have been cut, Allingham, who was a local authority early years adviser for many years, says there is plenty managers can do to ensure they are ready.
