Influence through engagement

3 mins read Leadership
A focus on engagement can be more effective than traditional approaches to communication and help organisations form the collaborative networks they need to pursue and achieve a shared goal.

Making the move to appoint our first "director of engagement" has helped London Youth think differently about leadership and how to influence in the youth sector. Engagement immediately commits you to thinking about and evaluating your activities on a two-way basis. It is all about relationships, really knowing the people you're working with and tuning into and responding to their concerns. It is also about working with people to achieve a joint goal.

London Youth is a charity on a mission to support young Londoners to be the best they can be. Currently, too many are shut out from all the opportunities the capital has to offer. Together with more than 450 member organisations we want to secure change so how we achieve influence is a key question. I believe engagement offers a better framework than traditional models of communication.
