
Edge campaigns to raise the status of vocational education. So in a time when parents and young people are worrying about job security and future employment, the practical skills acquired through hands-on training can offer a degree of comfort.
Powell says: "We're a campaign and a catalyst. Edge was set up solely to ensure there are many paths to success, in particular by raising the status of vocational education. We see the need for a transformation in education, so our job is to provoke debate right across the country."
He believes the economic downturn is adding weight to this debate.
"There's a vacuum of ideas, a questioning of what we currently do," he says.
