Equally suitable for new entrants to residential work or interested professionals from other disciplines, these resources fill a gap and offer an overview of what residential care is for and some of the challenges of delivering it.

The three modules progress through a series of reflective questions and case studies before summarising key points which are supported by exercises. Worksheets mean some of the learning can be put into practice straight away and space is given for the views of children and young people.

The materials lend themselves to work with a peer group and facilitator, but they could be worked through alone. Because it is a free web-based resource, children's homes can quickly incorporate the materials into existing induction material. A lot of ground is covered, so to get the full value of the content learners need to follow up the suggestions for further reading.
