Cassius Francis, youth liaison officer, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)

1 min read Youth Work
Cassius Francis is working to raise RoSPA's profile among 14- to 19-year-olds.

How did you get this role?

I have always been involved with youth work and mentoring activities and I ran my own business producing leadership and development programmes for young people. I actually saw this RoSPA role advertised in CYP Now. The interview process was quite innovative in that it involved being grilled by a group of young people. The job is all about participation, so it made me feel that RoSPA was taking the role seriously.

What does your job entail?

I will be working to raise RoSPA's profile among 14- to 19-year-olds, which is a new area for us. There are some staggering statistics concerning young people and accidents: 35 per cent of the 10- to 24-year-olds who died in England and Wales in 2006 died as a result of an accident. I am trying to get young people involved with accident prevention by working with schools and youth groups.
