What does a commissioning manager do?
I help Keys set up new children's homes. I am currently working on a facility called Oak Trees in Sydenham, which will be our first service in the London boroughs, and we hope it will open in February.
The process is very involved, and covers everything from buying the property and liaising with contractors during refurbishment, to recruiting staff and managing the registration process with Ofsted. We are opening facilities around the UK so I do a fair amount of travelling.
How did you end up in this role?
Most recently I was involved with quality management at Keys, but I am a trained social worker and have worked in and managed residential homes since 1991. It means I have insights into the job that I can pass on to new staff.
