Youth Work Week: Youth investment can no longer be an afterthought

Today (4 November) marks the start of Youth Work Week, the annual celebration of the incredible difference that youth workers make to thousands of young people every day.

Its also the day that we at OnSide release our annual Generation Isolation report, where we survey more than 5,000 young people aged 11-18 about their lives outside of school.

Now in its third year, Generation Isolation brings to life why the work of everyone in the youth sector is so critical. With 85% of a young persons time spent outside school, the experiences, opportunities and support they are provided during this time plays a vital role - by shaping happy, well-rounded young people that develop into confident, emotionally and physically healthy adults.

Yet this time outside of the classroom receives relatively little public or political attention compared with the time spent in school.
