The Working Families Everywhere programme is a key part of the government's plan to transform the lives of 120,000 of the most troubled families following the riots. The scheme is currently being piloted in 16 areas of the UK, where families identified as requiring intervention will be given access to a dedicated family champion.
The key objective of this network of trained practitioners and volunteers is to get long-term unemployed family members back into jobs - to ultimately create happy, working families with a new sense of purpose and an active role in society.
But if we are to embrace the idea of identifying and addressing the needs of a family as a whole, there will need to be a shift in the way many authorities currently work.
