Although the pros and cons of outsourcing public services are regularly batted back and forth, it is a route increasing numbers of authorities are currently considering.
When it comes to outsourcing services for children, some of the most important questions authorities will be asking themselves are what types of services could be better delivered externally, by whom and where? And further down the line, are the services being provided by outside agencies achieving what they are designed to for children and young people?
But along with this, there are some back office issues that shouldn’t be overlooked – particularly around how data can be shared securely between external agencies and authorities. This will help reduce the risk of gaps in the information being gathered on children and their families.
