This week's TV: absent fathers, play and chefs.

If there is a theme this week it's absent fathers, with Alesha Dixon (yes, really, once again I ask whither journalism?) exploring not knowing who your Dad is, and a new series involving children kidnapping their workaholic parents - in this case a Dad, I don't know if it always will be.

Monday 7 December

BBC3 10.30pm Young Chef of the Year. Kind of like MasterChef but you get to see who has won in just an hour. Another installment of BBC3's series focusing on talented young professionals - previous episodes have looked at butchers, hairdressers and mechanics. Repeated on Tuesday at 9pm if 10.30 is too late for you, or 3.45am on Tuesday if you are a night owl.
