A colleague attended an engineering event recently and noticed a faintly embarrassed looking 17 year old hanging around at the back of the room. She presumed he was there as some kind of work experience. When the presentation began she discovered that he had entered an innovation competition, designed a cosmic ray (yes, really) and that as part of his prize it was currently being put into operation.
