A colleague attended Gordon Brown's address in Stratford yesterday. A group of young people, as you probably saw on the news, were waiting to greet him outside Stratford Town Hall and were then ushered in quickly to take reserved seats on the front row, so that their expectant faces gazing up at the platform would be captured by the assembled media. Much of GB's speech also focussed on young people, and how "age should be absolutely no bar to you standing as an MP or councillor". I find it interesting that young people are so prized by political parties, and so much capital is made out of their involvement, and yet so few young people are engaged with politics. Disappointing - but then who wants to feel that their presence is only required because of what they represent, not who they are?
