Social Work Week – minister for children and families, Janet Daby

2 mins read
It is Social Work Week – an event close to my heart as a former child and families social worker and manager.

Around one in every 30 children are in need of social care support.

These are some of our most vulnerable children who start life on the back foot and have their life chances severely hampered because of reasons out of their control.

They could be at risk of abuse or neglect, or be suffering from mental health issues.

Without the right guidance and support, they risk slipping through the cracks and being held back from achieving the outcomes they deserve.

But we want to break the link between background and success, as part of our Plan for Change to give every child the best start in life.
