It’s time for early years and childcare to have a forum of their own

I have lost count of the times I have called for a review of schools’ forums.

I have long been dissatisfied with how the process offers consultation and advice to local authorities on how they spend early years funding – without full and deep understanding of it.

Sometimes forums overstep the mark and it can feel like they are making the decision. They shouldn’t, their purpose is to be consulted and offer advice to the local authority’s decisions. I have heard enough stories from unhappy and disenfranchised early years and childcare providers, and LA early years teams, to know that change is necessary. However, I shall do it no more. Instead, I am asking the powers-that-be to set up ‘early years and childcare forums’.
