‘Heads will roll’ comments will do nothing to improve standards at failing children’s services

It is important public services are held to account on behalf of vulnerable children and their families who need help and protection. 

However, MPs’ comments such as "heads will roll" do nothing to drive learning and improvement. It shatters morale. Instead, why not consider how to better understand what is happening inside this authority? 

Are there cultural and/or systems issues?  Where are the challenges, what is the learning that we can generate?  What role does years of under-resourcing for the sector play?

It’s time for leadership to foster an appreciative stance, taking responsibility for creating the conditions for the frontline to do what they do best.
