But all this can go too far. Wearing turbans, crucifixes and other personal signs of one’s faith should not be seen as at all peculiar. However, I recall a headteacher many years ago who got into huge trouble by insisting that Sikh turbans should be in the school colours – clearly a step too far. But the fact that I am wearing a wedding ring does not (I hope) show that I am discriminatory to those in civil or other partnerships, just that I am married and want to show it. I certainly don't go round persuading people that marriage is the only way to live.
