I've been reading the things that academies and free schools say they have been doing - most recently, an article in the Daily Telegraph entitled "My dream school opens its doors" about the ARK Attwood Academy, a primary school in north west London which now has 60 children on roll. The school is due to grow to 420 as the year groups go through, though it's not clear how the finance and staffing is being managed through this period. I imagine there will be some sort of transitional grants.
But what really interests me is how 'normal' the schools are. I really cannot see anything at all that the ARK Attwood Academy is doing that could not be done by a headteacher working with a governing body in a maintained school. Try this list:
