I was delighted to read that Jenny Wright, 12, wrote to her local council to complain about the lack of a footpath on the busy A road she and her familiy have to walk along. I was even more delighted that, when the response was that she would have to provide a survey of her neighbours in support of her complaint, she immediately carried out a survey, and as a consequence Anglesey Council has accepted the need to invest £350,000 in a road safety scheme. We don't have to wait for our elders and betters to do things for us, and Jenny has learned an excellent lesson in community activism - the Big Society at a local level. The only disappointing feature of the coverage was that it implied that this was a unique example, when I know that there are many cases where young people, acting singly or together, have had an impact on local service delivery. But it was brilliant nevertheless well done, Jenny!
