Can authorities predict future Neets to intervene sooner?

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that youth unemployment levels remain above the one million mark. This is likely to re-ignite the debate over what councils can do to cut the number of young people who end up not in employment, education or training (Neet) after leaving school.

Finding effective ways to reduce the number of young people so affected is not a simple task for authorities. But progress is being made in some areas through early intervention. One scheme I have found particularly interesting is happening in Sandwell, where work to improve young people’s job prospects begins in schools.
