Bromley has gone completely Barking

Bromley - scene of the childhoods/formative years of David Bowie, Hanif Kureishi, Siouxsie Sioux and yours truly - has had one of its bright ideas again (what an illustrious quartet that is for such a bland slice of surburbia).

The south London borough council that alone scuppered then-GLC leader Ken Livingstone's public transport 'fares fair' scheme in the early 80s, is now proposing to subsidise the private school fees of children whose poor parents have been made redundant in the recession! So they don't have to suffer the indignity of the state system just because they've lost their job!
